According to analysts, a few of Australia’s major industries might have a sole motivation to obey antitrust law: keeping the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission off their backs and out of their way. Reports say the food, grocery and retail industries are planning an Easter conference to discuss how to legally abide by ACCC rules. A code of conduct is reportedly in the works as well, though analysts are concerned that it could possibly serve as an “opt-out” for those under it; there is also speculation and skepticism among experts as to how strong its enforcement will be. The ACCC recently spearheaded a major investigation and crackdown into supermarket giants.
