Statistics show that the number of private antitrust cases filed in federal courts has risen in the 2012 fiscal year for the first time in three years. According to those statistics, the number of lawsuits rose 33 percent from FY2011, reaching 677 cases (compared to 452 cases last year). It’s a reversal of a trend that showed the number of antitrust cases falling since 2008. Statistics were compiled by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Analysts are unsure as to what the cause of the increase is.
