According to an analysis, Pakistani farmers have been helped more by the Competition Commission of Pakistan than by any other government agency in the past three years. The help has gone mostly to sugarcane farmers; sugarcane farmers asked to comment for the story said that they prefer the government to prevent sugar mills from forming oligopolistic cartels, a task the CCP has attempted to take-on starting in 2009 with the sugar lobby. That same year, the CCP also raided All Pakistan Sugar Mills Association offices in an investigation into whether the Association took part in anticompetitive practices that forces sugarcane farmers to lower their prices unfairly.
