According to a press release, a second phase investigation has been opened into the proposed merger between Ahlstrom’s Label and Processing company and Munksjö AB, a manufacturer of paper products. The result would be a new company, “NewCo.” The parties hope to resolve the review and complete their transaction by the second quarter of 2012. The European Commission has 90 working days to make a final decision; its second, in-depth investigation is to focus on abrasive backings and pre-impregnated décor paper. The first investigation indicated potential concerns within these two markets.
