Advanced composite material merger between Umeco and Cytec gets approval

The European Commission has cleared Cytec’s proposed acquisition of Umeco. Cytec is an American specialty chemicals and materials company. Umeco is a U.K. manufacturer and supplier of advanced composite materials, which can serve as a substitute for aluminum or steel in manufacturing components. The acquisition has been approved because the Commission found that strong competitors remain in the markets for prepregs (a specific advanced composite material) and certain adhesives post-merger.
