Armenia/France: Authority ready to discuss Carrefour turf war

In the latest development of conflict concerning supermarket chain Carrefour’s presence within Armenia, the head of the nation’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition has announced that he is awaiting to speak with representatives of the France-based retail giant. According to Artak Shaboyan, who spoke at the Armenian National Assembly on Tuesday, requests to speak with Carrefour representatives have gone unanswered. Shaboyan also noted that a detailed study of the issue must be conducted, and that the regulator has no additional information into the matter other than what has been reported in the media. According to reports, Armenian-born Russian entrepreneur and investor Samvel Karapetyan pulled out of a contract with Carrefour. Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has publically announced his support of the supermarket, noting that he will do everything possible to ensure Carrefour can establish a presence within Armenia.
