Australia: Broadband operator snatches up $9M worth of network

The National Broadband Network Company, the nation’s broadband operator, has announced a $9 million purchase of TransACT’s fiber-to-the-home network within the ACT, or Australian Capital Territory; the buyout will cover 8,500 locations. Additionally, the company announced plans to buy assets that are currently under construction or soon will be that will have access to another 4,500 premises. Further, NBN will buy long-term access to TransACT’s underground duct system in the ACT. The deal remains subject to approval by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The NBN Co is part of the Labor party’s plans to have 93 percent of ACT homes access high-speed fiber optic cable by June 2021.
