Australia: Second probe of city fuel prices launched

This week it was announced the city would become the ombudsman’s third regional fuel price market study.

In what has been dubbed a “deep dive”, there will be a probe into the city’ petrol market after it was deemed to need closer examination.

The consumer watchdog conducted an investigation into claims the city’s petrol retailers were “ripping off” drivers after a campaign led by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall last year. But the investigation did not uncover evidence to suggest the high price of fuel in Armidale was the result of collusion by retailers.

“Not finding evidence doesn’t mean it’s not happening though,” Mr Marshall said.
