Brazil: Mobile telecom towers approved for sale

 |  May 31, 2013

Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE has formally approved of a transaction that sees the sale of mobile telecommunications towers owned by Oi to be bought by two companies. Sao Paulo Cinco Locacao de Torres and BR Towers will own the towers, though the number of towers sold was not disclosed. According to reports, the sales are part of a new strategy for Oi to narrow its businesses focus. Oi will now own 10-20 percent of Brazil’s telecom towers, down from its previous 60-70 percent control of mobile antennae. CADE has unconditionally approved of the transaction.
