Brunei government considering creation of national competition law and policy

The Prime Minister’s Office and the Department of Economic Planning and Development are considering the creation of national antitrust legislation and competition policy for Brunei. The impetus for such laws is the country’s commitment to an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015. As part of its research, Brunei is comparing itself with other countries with similar economic structures. The government is also considering the benefits competition law and policy would have on aiding small businesses and local companies.
