Canada: Oil co guilty of price-fixing in Quebec, Bureau applauds

 |  August 12, 2013

Canada’s Competition Bureau announced Friday that oil company Les Pétroles Global Inc has been found guilty of fixing prices in several areas of Quebec. The ruling came after a probe by the Bureau following a trial in the Quebec Superior Court. The company, based in Ontario, was first accused of the conspiracy in 2008 for colluding to manipulate gas prices throughout Quebec. Sentencing will occur at a later date, according to a press release offered by the Bureau. According to Commissioner of Competition John Pecman, the ruling “sends a clear message that price-fixing activities will not be tolerated in Canada.” Individuals from Les Pétroles had previously plead guilty in years past.
