China: Antitrust crackdowns show no signs of slowing

China’s top competition official announced Tuesday that monopolistic behavior in the nation is increasing and that only “severe” crackdowns on the trend can stop it, say reports.

    The head of the National Development and Reform Commission, Xu Kunlin, spoke at a business forum in the nation’s capital to reinforce the importance of competition regulation in China.

    While no specific firms or industries were pinpointed in the speech, the regulator did say it was the government’s duty to crackdown on anticompetitive behavior. Recent investigations have targeted the instant milk market and pharmaceuticals.
