China: EU helps domestic solar firms with import tax

European regulators have imposed tariffs on Chinese imports of solar glass as part of efforts to curb competition for domestic EU manufacturers.

    Chinese-based firms including Zhejiang Jaifu Glass and Zinyi P Products are now facing the taxes in response to allegations the companies are selling their solar panel products at below market prices. The European Commission has reportedly found Chinese companies are dumping their products in the EU, resulting in “material injury” suffered by domestic companies.

    The fines will remain in effect anywhere between six months and five years.

    The Commission first launched a probe into allegations of dumping by Chinese companies last February following a complaint lodged with regulators by a group of EU solar panel firms.
