China: Micron tech giant waiting to clear final merger hurdles

Technology giant Micron has confirmed that antitrust authorities in China are the last to approve of its merger with Elpida Memory. According to reports, the US, Czech Republic, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan have all given pre-merger approval for Micron to take over the company, which specializes in DRAM memory. China’s Ministry of Commerce is the last body Micron must clear to finalize the deal, and in a statement the company said that there are “conditions” it must meet to earn approval in China, as well as in the US and Tokyo, though the parties expect to close the deal in the first half of 2013.
