China: NDRC keeps info under wraps in US-based Qualcomm probe

 |  November 25, 2013

China’s National Development and Reform Commission has reportedly opened an investigation into US semiconductor company Qualcomm, though details of the probe remain scarce as the NDRC declines to reveal specifics on the case.

Qualcomm confirmed that it was under watch of the NDRC, though denied any violation of the nation’s antimonopoly law and vowed to comply with regulators.

The company, which manufacturers mobile chips, licenses technology and sells products to Chinese firms for overseas exports, according to reports. According to one analyst – James Faucette of Pacific Crest Securities – the probe raises eyebrows as it occurs as the nation seems poised to grant new G4 LTE wireless spectrum licenses.
