City Petrol Group fined for abuse of dominance involving retail gasoline pricing

 |  March 14, 2012

The State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition has fined City Petrol Group (CPG) 100 million drams (approximately $258,000) for abuse of its dominant position in the market for fuel. CPG is Armenia’s largest fuel-importing company. The watchdog found that CPG engaged in price dumping by making the retail price of gasoline and diesel at CPG-owned stations the same as the wholesale price paid by smaller firms buying fuel from CPG. As a result, small gasoline retailers were forced to exit the market, including dozens who had to sell their stations to CPG.
