City Petrol Group fined for abuse of dominance involving retail gasoline pricing

The State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition has fined City Petrol Group (CPG) 100 million drams (approximately $258,000) for abuse of its dominant position in the market for fuel. CPG is Armenia’s largest fuel-importing company. The watchdog found that CPG engaged in price dumping by making the retail price of gasoline and diesel at CPG-owned stations the same as the wholesale price paid by smaller firms buying fuel from CPG. As a result, small gasoline retailers were forced to exit the market, including dozens who had to sell their stations to CPG.
