Spain’s Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC) has approved Antena 3’s acquisition of La Sexta, with conditions. Antena 3 is a television channel; La Sexta is a broadcast television station. An in-depth investigation by the CNC led to concerns that the merger would have on several audiovisual markets in Spain. To resolve the concerns, conditions will limit Antena 3’s ablity to use its acquired market power in the television advertising market, Antena 3’s reinforced position in the free-to-air television market, and the ability to exclude content from competitors. The conditions will be effective for five years.
