Colombia: Mergers expected to increase in late 2015

 |  May 5, 2015

Colombia’s Superintendence for Industry and Trade has released a set of statistics that appears to show a slight slowdown in terms of mergers and acquisitions, dropping to 25 in 2015 from 38 at the same point in 2014.

Despite a series of challenges facing Colombia’s economy, businesses and authorities seem confident that the end of the year will see similar levels of business activity as 2014. So far, the country has seen mergers among large players in the pharmaceutical, animal, financial services, agriculture, home appliances, and others.

Important moves are expected even within the weakened Oil industry, with two local companies being targeted by Asian investment funds. The industry as a whole is expected to benefit from the devaluation of Colombia’s peso, reducing the cost of exports.
