Competition Commission expands probe of BSkyB to consider Netflix and Lovefilm’s effects on pay-TV market
The Competition Commission will expand its probe of BSkyB and the pay-TV market to include Netflix and Lovefilm. The decision comes after “potentially relevant” developments in the market that would implicate the Competition Commission decision on BSkyB–Netflix was introduced to the U.K. and Ireland only in January 2012, and Amazon-owned Lovefilm now offers streaming movies. Netflix and Lovefilm may make the pay-TV market more competitive. As a result of these market changes, the deadline for a final report has been pushed to July.
