Egypt: Government may enforce mandatory cement price-fixing

Egypt’s parliament has reportedly requested that the Egyptian Competition Authority fix the nation’s cement prices in the wake of up to 25 percent price hikes. The mandatory pricing for the nation’s firms would be intended to block what the head of the nation’s Consumer Protection Agency Atef Yacub called “unjustified increases” in prices. Yacub reportedly denied allegations that cement prices rose solely due to increases in electricity prices.
