London-based publisher Macmillan Science and Education has announced it merger into Springer Science+Business Media on Wednesday. Macmillan publishes Nature magazine and Scientific American and Springer controls various science, technology and business publications.
Together, the publishers generate an estimated $1.7 billion in annual sales. In addition to the merger, the companies stated that the move aims towards a sale, likely and initial public offering, of the joint company. The deal excludes certain businesses like the software firm Digital Science and the education technology company Digital Education.
Springer CEO Derk Haank will head the merged company which is valued at $5.8 billion after the merger finalizes, which the companies expect to happen within the next 6 months.
