EU: US Airways, American compromise for merger clearance

In efforts to create the world’s largest airliner, US Airways Group and American Airlines offered concessions to the European Commission in order to gain approval from the regulator to merge. The $11 billion deal will meet its fate in the EU by August 6, said the Commission, as it reviews the proposal. Exact details of the offer given by the airliners were not reported, though reports say common concessions among airliners include divesting airport slots or allowing competitors to use an airline’s frequent flyer mile program.
