France: Dominance abuse fears lead regs to demand customer data from GDF

 |  September 9, 2014

Gas giant GDF Suez is reportedly under investigation by French regulators for concerns that the company abused its market dominance, say reports.

France’s antitrust authority has ordered GDF to hand over data related to the company’s customer database.

Reports say regulators launched an investigation into the company following a complaint filed by rival energy company Direct Energie. As part of the probe, GDF will be required to make its customer database available to regulators by November 3.

The firm was also ordered to hand over its household database by December 15, as per orders by the competition regulator.

The watchdog, which announced the developments on Tuesday, added that it will launch an in-depth investigation into GDF’s business practices and said its case will remain open possibly as late as 2016.
