France: Financial regs target Apple over mobile contracts

 |  September 25, 2013

A French media group told reporters that Apple Inc. is being targeted by financial authorities over contracts made with mobile operators for possible anticompetitive clauses, according to reports.

France’s DGCCRF, the financial regulator with competition and consumer protection oversight, is looking at various clauses of Apple contacts with mobile phone companies, according to media group BFMTV. The DGCCRF is reviewing conditions on sales volumes, advertising and commission, according to reports.

Apple has been targeted in complaints by mobile companies before, including Orange and SFT. The allegations claim Apple is abusing its dominance and has too much control over negotiations because operators cannot afford not to have the iPhone available on their network.

The regulator declined to comment, and Apple did not respond to requests for comment, say reports.
