France: Watchdog ends Orange hopes to nix rival joint venture

France’s telecommunications authority has denied telco Orange’s request to deny plans of a network sharing deal between two of Orange’s rivals, reports say.

    The regulator said Thursday that there was “no serious and immediate threat to the interest of the sector, consumers or the plaintiff company” in relation to the partnership between Bouygues and SFR. Orange had filed a complaint with the regulator last April and had sought an emergency ruling to end the network sharing operation on claims it negatively impacted the nation’s telco industry.

    Orange said it would appeal the ruling.

    Bouygues and SFR struck the partnership in January.
