Germany: Deutsche Bahn moves to settle railway antitrust case

Germany’s state owned railway Deutsche Bahn reportedly proposed an offer to settle an investigation into one of its units by the European Commission following suspicions the unit may be offering anticompetitive discounts and inflating prices when selling power. The unit, DB Energie, is the sole traction current supplier in the country. The Commission first raided Deutsche Bahn offices in 2011 after receiving complaints of the company’s anticompetitive behavior. Details of the settlement offer were not disclosed, but the Commission confirmed it would now review the deal.
