Germany: Nation advised to drop Deutsche Telekom

As Germany looks to strengthen its telecommunications infrastructure, reports say an advisory group is recommending the nation to drop its stake in Deutsche Telekom to prevent any conflicts of interest.

    The nation’s Monopoly Commission said earlier this week that due to “the simultaneous role as owner and regulator” the government should part ways with the operator.

    Along with state owned bank KfW, Germany owns 32 percent of the company. As the nation’s largest telecom, Deutsche Telekom first began to be privatized in the 1990s; now, the Monopoly Commission is advising the nation to complete that privatization.
