Germany: Tensions grow with EU over solar panel import taxes from China

Germany made a statement Monday to distance itself from the European Commission, which recently proposed a tax on solar panels imported from China in order to quell the Commission’s concerns that China is dumping cheap products within Europe. In response, China has called for further discussion; similarly, Germany announced that it would like a more amicable solution to create fair competition in the market. The Commission’s probe into the dumping is the largest ever from the regulator. But tensions are high as China remains Europe’s second-largest trading ally. Further, Germany and France are currently seeking to increase exports to China, making the situation more delicate.
