India: CCI denies case against city health department

The Competition Commission of India rejected an official complaint lodged against the Health & Family Welfare Department of Odisha, stating the regulator did not find sufficient evidence to open a case. Various parties including medical shop Oracle Drugs issued the complaint against the health department alleging anticompetitive behavior for imposed discounts on healthcare shops at levels higher than initially agreed upon. The department, whose main objective is to provide affordable healthcare, was cleared of any charges as the CCI found the discounts not to be anticompetitive.
