Japan/Korea: Nations hit with most U.S. antitrust fines this year

South Korean firms have been fined the second-largest amount this year by U.S. antitrust authorities, according to reports. Japanese firms have reportedly been hit with the most. Korean firms have been hit with $1.27 billion in fines, and Japanese firms have been hit with $1.36; both numbers are expected to rise as authorities expect the number of cases to grow due to the economic downturn across the globe. An official for the FTC explained that a lack in market growth leads to temptation for businesses to fix prices.
