Japan: Land ministry continued bid-rigging violations after JFTC warning

Japan’s Fair Trade Commission has issued its third warning against land and infrastructure minister Yuichiro Hata to correct his ministry’s participation in bid-rigging, specifically in pre-arranging winners of tenders for public works contracts. Previous warnings for similar violations were issued in 2007 and 2009. The charges are aimed at six deputy heads of local-level offices who took part in the conspiracy. An investigation fronted by the ministry found that violations continued even after the JFTC’s second warning
