Kenya: Nation’s largest telco begins bundling

 |  November 13, 2013

Kenya’s largest telecommunications firm announced plans to begin bundling Internet and cable services within the next year, according to its top executive.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore told reporters that the company “could be playing relatively prominently” in the aggregation and delivery of content to tablets, mobile phones and televisions.

The plan is part of efforts to expand beyond Safaricom’s main voice communications services.

That plan could be a residual effect of intense competition in the nation’s telco market three years ago that lead to firms branching out beyond voice data services.

According to Collymore, the company will provide content to various media platforms including TV stations and YouTube.
