KPN stops pursuing Caiway because of NMa objections

 |  April 10, 2012

KPN has decided to drop its bid for Caiway, given the number of objections the NMa raised in relation to the acquisition. Caiway provides television, broadband, and telephony services in the Netherlands; it is the nation’s fourth-largest cable provider. KPN is the leading telecommunications service provider in the Netherlands.

Under the terms of the deal, KPN was to acquire Caiway’s service provider activities and network lease contracts. It would not acquire passive infrastructure assets, and would provide “open access.” However, the NMa raised concerns with KPN’s increased market dominance in the regions Caiway serves, such as Westland, Midden-Delfland, and Schiedam.
