Mediaset breaches commitments made for Sogecuatro acquisition

On June 7, the Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC) opened formal proceedings against Mediaset Espana Comunicacion for failing to breach the commitments it entered to, by the CNC Council’s Resolution of October 28, 2010. The Resolution had authorized Mediaset’s acquisition of Sociedad General de Television Cuatro as long as it undertook the voluntary commitments it had submitted. Mediaset had breached its commitment to keep Publiespana and Publimedia functionally separate. It also delayed waiving its pre-emptive rights to acquire audiovisiual content. The CNC Council also found evidence that Mediaset linked the sale of advertising on its channels.
