Mexico: COFECE reaches out to public on merger guidelines

 |  November 26, 2014

Mexico’s competition authority COFECE announced earlier this week that it has launched the first public consultation for rules on analyzing the potential effects of mergers and acquisitions.

The watchdog says it has opened up comments for the draft Technical Criteria seeking opinion on “the calculation and application of a quantitative index in the analysis” of those possible effects.

Submissions can be made at www.cofece.mx. Opinions can also be emailed directly to publica1@cofece.mx, the watchdog said

According to COFECE, comments can be made until January 15 of next year. The regulator is seeking comment on the rules that define and explain calculation of an index that is the first approach to analyzing potential merger effects.

COFECE says the regulations could possibly apply to analysis of other competition matters as well.
