Netherlands: Report calls on authorities to stop beer monopolies

A new report released by an economic research group has named beer drinkers as “victims” of monopolistic behavior by the nation’s brewers. SEO released the report, calling on the nation’s competition authority to crack down on beer companies who prevent cafes and bars from selling their competitors’ products. The report says that about 75 percent of the café beer market is connected to single brewers due to exclusivity agreements, and if proper action is taken, competition will rise and prices will fall.
