Pakistan: CCP busts car-manufacturing cartel

The Competition Commission of Pakistan has notified the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Authorized Dealers Association, along with 44 of its members, that they are in violation of competition laws after the CCP found evidence of cartelization among car dealers.

    Reports say following an investigation, the CCP found that carmakers fixed prices of automobile repair jobs, spare parts and other services. Authorities additionally found that the manufacturers divided up markets and restrained inter-dealer employment.

    According to reports, the cartel crackdown as the CCP faces difficulties in its enforcement practices. A majority of its cases have been granted stay orders by appeals courts, and reports say the government has failed to financially support the CCP’s work.
