Hebert Tassano, President of Peru’s competition regulator INDECOPI, revealed that the agency is investigating a purported price-fixing cartel in the national LPG market. The probe involves major fuel companies such as Repsol Gas del Peru SA, Zeta Gas Andino and Lima Gas.
Speaking during a session before the Consumer Protection and Public Service Regulation Commission, Mr. Tassano specified that 20 inspections had been carried out, between 2013 and 2015, with due access to electronic data.
“We are dealing with a possible cartel, involving the packaging and sales chain. Procedures for sanctioning this anticompetitive action have begun, and we have also started administrative procedures against several company executives for their role in planning and executing this price-fixing agreement” said the agency director. Mr Tassano further proposed that current legislation should be amended in order to give INDECOPI access to more electronic data, as a tool to help detect violations of competition law.
