Philippines: DOJ probes deeper into energy prices

    The decision to continue the investigation follows claims by the Energy Regulatory Commission that the price increases were the result of some power plants refusing to offer full capacities in the wholesale market.

    The DOJ said its Office of Competition will probe the matter “bearing in mind its mandate to protect the interest of the consumers,” the DOJ said.

    The Energy Regulatory Commission had previously ordered energy operator Philippine Electricity Market Corporation to reduce charges on Luzon customers between December 2013 and January 2014, say reports.
