South Africa: Top marketer acquired to compete with Publicis, Omnicom

 |  May 6, 2014

South Africa’s largest marketing agency Quirk has reportedly entered into a deal to be acquired by WPP, a deal the parties hope will allow them to more adequately compete against the merging Publicis and Omnicom giants.

According to reports, Quirk operates across Africa and London with clients that include Tyco and Woolworths.

WPP is facing major competition from the Publicis/Omnicom tie-up, worth $45 billion, which is still pending review. But with the EU’s clearance of the deal, reports say the merger has pushed WPP into second-place in the industry.

The acquisition of Quirk will also need regulatory approval; financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
