Spain: Data shows consumers switching mobile providers at record speed

 |  September 23, 2013

New data released Monday shows that Spanish consumers switched mobile telco operators at a record rate last July, a sign of an economic recession and consumers seeking cheaper deals, say reports.

The switching made the largest impacts on giants Telefonica and Vodafone, which saw clients transferring to smaller rivals like Orange and Yoigo.

Reports say nearly 50 percent more consumers switched mobile providers last July compared with the same time period in 2012.

The nation’s telco watchdog, the CMT, released the numbers. In a statement, the CMT attributed the switching to “strong competition between mobile operators.”
