As part of an antitrust inquiry into men’s professional golf, the Justice Department has interviewed players such as Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Sergio García. The investigation is focused on whether the PGA Tour attempted to manipulate the sport’s labor market.
The department has been investigating since at least last summer and has looked into possible collusion in the Official World Golf Ranking and the close relationships between the leaders of the PGA Tour and the organizations that organize the Masters, the P.G.A. Championship, and the US Open.

Lawyers from the PGA Tour recently met with officials from the Justice Department in Washington. The timeline for completion of the review and any potential actions that may be taken by the government in regards to golf are currently unclear.
The inquiry has caused further disruption in the sport, which has been dealing with the emergence of LIV Golf, a league that enticed top players from the PGA Tour with funds from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.
