The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday approved of an order that released Nevadan cardiologists from their noncompete clauses included in contracts with Renown Regional Medical Center; as a result, 10 cardiologists have been allowed to join competing practices. The decision was made by the FTC with a unanimous 5-0 vote. A representative for the Attorney General Office’s Bureau of Consumer Protection says the FTC and the Nevada Attorney General’s Office collaborated to determine whether Renown violated competition law when it acquired Sierra Nevada Cardiology Associates in 2010 and Reno Heart Physicians in 2011, two deals that required the cardiologists to sign contracts with the noncompete clause.
