The United Arab Emirates’ Telecommunications Regulatory Authority announced new plans to boost competition in the telco sector by automatically waiving approval for prepaid packages and fees set by companies, say reports.
The decision is part of efforts to raise competition, especially between the top-two telco operators Etisalat and du. The TRA’s move also increases pricing flexibility, reports say, as the companies will be able to alter pricings based off each other.
Further, the market will see new product entry and improve service quality, the telecommunications watchdog said.
The TRA assured it would continue to monitor the industry’s behavior to assure all actions comply with competition rule.
