UK: As Yellow Pages struggles, Commission lifts restrictions on ad prices

The owner of the Yellow Pages, Hibu, saw a sharp shares rise by 12 percent in wake of the news that the Competition Commission is to lift the undertakings that control Hibu’s prices the company charges for advertisers. According to the Commission, the shift towards the Internet away from printed classified directories was the direct motivation for the change, noting that Hibu no longer has market power in this industry. The decision from the Commission also comes after a recommendation by the Office of Fair Trading issued last October.
