UK: Man who blew whistle on gas price-fixing fired from job

The man who blew the whistle on suspicious wholesale gas pricing patterns, and who accused firms of price-fixing, has been fired from his job at the price reporting agency ICIS Heren. Seth Freedman reported the unusual patterns to regulators, sparking investigations into the market by energy regulator Ofgem as well as the Financial Services Authority. In a statement after his termination, Freedman said he “was doing the right thing” but treated as if he were “the bad guy,” calling the situation “outrageous.” ICIS added its own side to the story, saying that colleages and price reporting agencies could no longer have confidence in Freedman’s work, and that the company offered him three different positions at ICIS but Freedman declined them, acording to a spokesperson.
