According to a press release, the Office of Fair Trading has approved of remedies offered by Vue Entertainment International Limited to acquire Apollo Cinemas Limited. According to the release, Vue offered to sell four movie theatres to complete the acquisition of the movie theatre company; the OFT has accepted those remedies and will not refer the issues to the Competition Commission. Before the deal had been finalized, Vue controlled 68 theatre in the UK; its acquisition of Apollo adds another 14 to its roster, as well as an opportunity to open two more. Four geographical areas were cause for concern for the OFT until Vue agreed to sell those theatres.
