UK: With telco overhauls, consumers to see lower broadband prices

New proposals by the UK’s communications watchdog, Ofcom, aim to reduce broadband prices for consumers by up to 80 percent through a boost in market competition, say reports. Ofcom is looking to facilitate the transference of broadband customers between suppliers by reducing the cost of switching and reducing minimum contract requirements. Currently, consumers within the UK must pay 50 pounds to switch operators, which equates to more than $75. Under Ofcom’s new proposals, consumers would be able to switch providers after a one-month contract, as opposed to the current one-year contract, with reduced prices.
