Ukraine: Telco merger up for debate, says Antimonopoly Committee

Ukraine’s competition regulator announced it is seeking comments on the proposed buyout of telecommunications conglomerate Ukrtelecom, the current market leader for fixed communications. The nation’s largest holding SCM plans to buyout the company, which also operates a 3G mobile network. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine said it expects to have a more accurate idea as to the effects the deal would have on competition in about a month. The deal, which includes other telco assets, was announced in early June of this year.
