URCA approves 35 cent charge for directory assistance

The Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority has approved a 35-cent charge for use of directory assistance, after an initial three free calls. The charge will not apply to calls made from payphones, but only those from fixed lines and mobile phones. The charge had been requested by the Bahamas Telecommunications Company and was approved to bring the Bahamas in line with international standards and foster competition in the telecommunications market.
